HUMAN MARRIAGE IS OPTIONAL
When Adam and Eve transgressed the commandment not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and died as prescribed God did not withdraw libido from mankind. Having promised to redeem fallen man as the Seed of the woman, people must be born into the world before they can be redeemed to build a replacement for fallen angels. There can be no vacuum in heaven.
Consequently, God encouraged the Gentiles to increase and multiply until “the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Judgment by a flood of waters did not abate human inclination to disobey God.
The Tower of Babel conspiracy brought matters to a head. God put the Gentiles aside and called Abram to start a new race. The commandment to refill the earth was put on hold. Man was given the option to bring new human beings on the earth with dire consequences for failure to train the offspring in the fear, nurture and admonition of the Lord.
In this dispensation of grace marriage is optional. God’s concern in this church age is to save some of the multitude of unsaved humanity already in the fires of hell and not to add unreasonably to the number. That may be one of the reasons why Apostle Paul opted to be celibate.
“Now concerning the things of which you wrote to me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. For I wish that all men were even as I myself. But each one has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that. But I say to the unmarried and to the widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I am.” (1 Cor 7:1-2, 7-8 NKJV)
Some people cannot make it to heaven if they are not married. Those who have or can acquire the gift of celibacy are encouraged to do so for it is the best way to serve the Lord without distraction.
In Matthew 19 Jesus responded to His disciples question on the matter:
10 His disciples said to Him, “If such is the case of the man with his wife, it is better not to marry.”
11 But He (Jesus) said to them, “All cannot accept this saying, but only those to whom it has been given:
12 “For there are eunuchs who were born thus from their mother’s womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He who is able to accept it, let him accept it.”
