MARITAL IMPERATIVES #10
THE ROLE OF THE CHURCH
The contemporary church is a mixed multitude. It has become incumbent to separate born again Christians from mere churchgoers who are unbelievers.
The church has no authority for interfering in matrimonial matters other than to interpret the rules of engagement as provided for in the Bible.
Marriage is not a sacrament and the Bible does not empower any Christian denomination to join a man and a woman in wedlock.
There is no divine authority for a minister presuming to join a man and a woman in matrimonial relationship.
Under the Law of Moses, Priests and Levites were not involved in wedding ceremonies. The Rabbis, as teachers interpreted the law.
Is it not absurd for the church to seek permission of the state to ‘join’ a man and a woman in holy matrimony? Where did the state derive the authority to conduct wedding for man and woman that it is now delegating to the church?
