Things appear to be moving from bad to worse. The church has been praying with all manner of prayer. Yet, the carnage would appear to be increasing more and more. The leadership of the church has been declaring all kinds of fasting. Nothing seems to be working. Could it be that the church is praying without understanding? Could it be that the church has been fasting amiss?

“Indeed you fast for strife and debate, and to strike with the fist of wickedness … Is it a fast that I have chosen, a day for a man to afflict his soul?… Is this not the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke? (Isa 58:4-6) There are different ways of carrying out biblical fasting.

Esther’s Dry Fast
The Jews in Babylon were under threat of extermination. Modecai sent word to Queen Esther to intercede before the King on behalf of her people. She called for a fast. “Go, gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and fast for me; neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will fast likewise. And so I will go to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish!” (Esther 4:16)

Daniel’s Partial Food Fast
Daniel and his three companions were part of the Jews taken into captivity by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. They were apportioned a “daily provision of the king’s delicacies and of the wine which he drank, and three years of training for them, so that at the end of that time they might serve before the king.” Daniel rejected the offer having “purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies.” Daniel and his companions declared a partial food fast. “Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink.” (Dan 1)

Later when Daniel received a depressing revelation about his people and the land of Israel he undertook a partial food fast for “three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.” (Dan 10)

Jesus’ Prolonged Fast
The first part of the mandate of Jesus was a very difficult assignment. Before He began His ministry Jesus “fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.”

Many Christians break the commandments of God due to ignorance. Eating blood in any form contravenes the commandment of God. Food is good for the body; inappropriate food can defile the body and make it useless to both man and God. Fasting has beneficial effect but if you add iniquity to your fasting you should not expect a holy God to respond to your request.

Eating Of Blood
“Therefore I said to the children of Israel, ‘No one among you shall eat blood, nor shall any stranger who dwells among you eat blood’” (Lev 17:12). God commanded the people of Israel not to eat blood. One way of eating blood is through food. It is impossible to eat red meat without eating blood. That is why for God’s chosen people provision was made for draining blood for slaughtered animals to be fit to be eaten. Shehitah is the ritual slaughtering of animals to make red meat fit for consumption by the people of God.

You might say ‘that’s the OT; it doesn’t apply to New covenant saints.’ But, it does. There is a corresponding passage in the NT bible. “For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well.” (Acts 15:28-29). That was the Apostles charge to converting Gentiles.

The easiest ways of getting involved with blood are through murder such as abortion, sexual immorality and by eating red meat. Jews as a whole do not eat meat except it is prepared under the laws of kashrut. These practices ensure that blood is completely drained from any meat before it can be declared kosher meat.

One of the problems of eating blood is that it defiles the land, which in turn spews out the people living on it. Therefore if you are a Christian or a Jew with no access to kosher meat you must avoid eating red meat, ham, sausage, ‘suya,’ ‘kileshi’ and other delicacies prepared from red meat. Some even collect blood for food. Under Korsher law, shehitah must be done by those professionally trained to do so.

I’ve seen people slaughter chicken for food by ringing the neck. The chicken dies with much of the blood in the flesh. If you must eat chicken you must adhere to the biblical laws of slaughtering by draining the blood completely before cooking.

Note that bush-meat is a no-go area for Christians who desire to preserve their bodies blameless for the Lord’s return. This provision is applicable to cows, all domestic animals, and to fowl.

Long time ago in the village where I was born I saw people collect blood from slaughtered animal, put it in the intestine of the animal cook and eat it as sausage. The people were polluted. The land also was polluted requiring divine healing.

In high-class hotels and restaurants you can easily be served blood and human flesh unawares. The menu will carry a fantastic sounding label without you knowing that you are being served blood. Be sure of what you eat in those exquisite cuisines.

Wasting or eating human blood in any form contravenes the commandment of God. Apart from red meat there are ways one can eat blood without being aware of it. Note the commandment of God to New covenant saints to abstain from blood. “… abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality.” (Acts 15:29)

The commandment of God is to abstain from taking human life. Life is in the blood. Herdsmen clash with farmers and villagers that result in fatalities is in actuality the killing of human beings by cows. “”If an ox gores a man or a woman to death, then the ox shall surely be stoned, and its flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be acquitted. But if the ox tended to thrust with its horn in times past, and it has been made known to his owner, and he has not kept it confined, so that it has killed a man or a woman, the ox shall be stoned and its owner also shall be put to death.” (Ex 21:28-29)

If a cow gores a human being according to the scripture quoted above it is murder. The cow must be killed and its flesh must not be eaten. If a person kills a human being on behalf of a cow, both the cow and the person who committed the homicide are deemed to be murderers. Anyone who eats the meat of animals that gored human beings or on whose behalf human beings were killed is deemed to have committed the same offence of murder.

It has been reported that in recent times in Nigeria herdsmen attack farmers to forcibly acquire grazing land for their animals. These attacks have resulted to fatalities in several places, notably the Middle Belt region. This is double homicide: the herdsmen doing that have committed murder; the herds have also committed murder. It’s a tragedy for Christians in particular to join the murderous group ignorantly by eating the meat of those animals. At the gate of heaven the plea of ignorance will not avail.

Blood has been shed. The land has been polluted. The divine provision is to kill the animals and bury the carcass. There is the need to cleanse the land from pollution caused by the shedding of blood. This is where prayer with understanding comes in. Fasting must be purposeful to be relevant and achieve expected result.

Meanwhile, anyone who eats cow meat in such circumstances is a partaker in the evil on the land. Such people have made themselves murderers and land polluters. Any Christian among the murderers and polluters cannot inherit the kingdom of God. Also, Christians who approve or condone such infraction of the commandments of the Lord are deemed to be in the same class as those dealing in blood. The wrath of God will ultimately fall on all “who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.” (Rom 1:32). It is a grievous error rooted in ignorance to “be partaker of other men’s sins.”

The solution to the problems of Nigeria is in the hands of the Church of Jesus Christ. At the edge of the Red Sea with Pharaoh’s army in hot pursuit, the children of Israel were afraid and cried out to the Lord. “And the LORD said to Moses, ‘why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.’” (Ex 14:15). I believe the church has prayed enough; it’s time to take action: it is time to move forward.

“But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea” (Ex 14:16). It’s time for action. Let’s determine to discipline ourselves, move forward by refusing to eat red meat for seven weeks or forty-nine days. I say to you brethren in Christ “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD.” Moses did not pray for the red sea to divide. He simply obeyed the voice of the Lord by doing something.

The battle is the Lord’s. He will fight for His own; He is a man of war. Hold your peace. Do the needful. The LORD will fight and defend His name as we obey this clarion call. Let’s us take a break from eating blood and do a partial food fast for seven weeks only! Abstain from RED MEAT for forty-nine days. “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD.”

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (2 Chron 7:14). Do you know that if Nigerian Christians can discipline themselves to forego the eating of red meat and by extension avoid eating blood there will be a mighty divine visitation of peace on the land? Obedience brings relief. The Word of God works for those who put their trust wholly on the Lord.

If you are persuaded that this message is biblical, then share it to all your contacts. Begin the partial food fast whenever this message gets to you. Take action and see what the Lord will do.

Come Lord Jesus!
